The hero of Goscinny and Uderzo's comic books is a national and international star who owes his success to the good-natured and burlesque tone of the adventures and delightful allusions to modern situations.
350 million albums sold worldwide between 1959 and the present day, translations in around a hundred languages, 8 cartoon films and 4 cinematic adaptations… Asterix is by far the most popular Gaul in the world.
This small, cunning and ageless bachelor, living in a hut in the middle of a village of belligerent but united and epicurean Gauls, is the star of 35 albums set in the historic region of Gaul and other parts of the world. He is accompanied in all his adventures by his menhir-carrying friend Obelix and the latter's little dog called Dogmatix. Obelix's superhuman strength comes from a magic potion, concocted by the village's druid Panoramix, which allows the villagers to resist the Roman invasion in general and Julius Caesar in particular.
These comic books were an instant success. They owe their success to the good-natured and burlesque tone of the adventures which appeal to all ages, the indulgent satire of national failings, an excellent set of recurrent secondary characters, a stream of puns and delightful allusions to modern situations.
Original story writer: René Goscinny, the man behind numerous French comic heroes and an excellent talent scout thanks to the 'Pilote' review.
Original illustrator: Albert Uderzo.

The village that is home to the indomitable Gauls, inspired by the famous comic book, opens its doors to you in Plailly, in the Oise, thirty or so km from Paris.
Asterix and Obelix are there for you to have a great time. Dancing, shows, stunts and surprises, and visitors can also hear Caconofix sing. There are five different worlds in the park to explore: Gaul and the famous Gaul village, plus the Roman Empire, Greece, Vikings and Travel through time. Lots of different scenarios for you to experience: visitors can assume the identity of a Roman spy to infiltrate the camp of the indomitable Gauls (watch out – intensive training!), weather a storm on board a swing boat or embark a on a Viking Drakkar long ship. Actors, stuntmen, acrobats, animal trainers, artisans, magicians and more are all there to surprise the visitor at every turn. The Astérix Park is packed with breath-taking attractions: Tonnerre de Zeus, the biggest wooden roller coaster in Europe, the spectacular Goudurix serpentine rollercoaster, the Trace du Hourra, a vertiginous 900m descent, and the Menhir Express (which floats) and more.
